the reading room

12th–18th August, 2024 Muine Bheag Community Centre, R21 PX68

Curated by Chloe Maguire as part of COMMUNE presented by Muine Bheag Arts

Distro: The Reading Room at Muine Bheag Arts is an exhibition showcasing the practice of artist books and zine culture within rural settings. This exhibition features a diverse selection of books and zines from over 40 artists and invites the public to immerse themselves in a specially designed reading space for artist publications. The Reading Room acts as a relaxed place for visitors to research and discover the rich tapestry of artist publications and themes they encompass. The collection explores themes of food, poetry, architecture, language, agriculture, design, community, critical theory and photography.

Distro: The Reading Room will accompany a series of public events such as a presentation of archival artist books from the National Irish Visual Arts Library (NIVAL) on 14th August at 1pm. This exhibition is a continuation of Distro: On Artist Publishing which was first exhibited as part of the Cavan Arts Festival in 2023.
